The Bahmani Sultanate was a major political power in the Deccan from the 14th century to 16th century CE in the Deccan. It was formed out when Hasan Gangu declared independence when Delhi Sultanate of Muhammad Bin Tuqlaq. By Early 16th Century, the establishment weakened causing the dissolution of the Sultanate into smaller ones, all in Deccan. After Mahmoud Shah's period, each of these Sultanates (namely Bidar, Berar, Bijapur, Ahmadnagar, Golconda) declared independence for themselves.

Subhan Quli Qutb Shah ruled for a very short period. Excluding him, there were Seven major Sultans. The most important Was Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. He ruled the largest Empire in the Sultanate's history. He was also the founder of Hyderabad. He had Char Minar built to Commemorate the victory of the empire over bubonic plague. He is also known for loving and marrying Bhagmati, a Hindu girl and naming the City Bhagyanagaram after her. He later renamed her Hyder Begum and Bhagyanagaram Hyderabad.
The next greatest king was Abdullah Quli Qutb Shah. He held a very large empire.
Ibrahim served his people by having Hussain Sagar built.

Women were also very important. The most important was Hayat Bhaksh Begum, the daughter of Muhammad Quli Qutb Shahi; the wife of Mohamed Qutb Shah; and the mother of Abdullah. Fatima Begum was another important figure.
